The view from Laila’s living room is one of glorious sunsets over the horse paddocks and hills below the cottage with the Langeberg Mountains in the distance. Laila was a favourite maiden aunt whose old books on philosophy, nursing and history are still on the shelves, giving the cottage a quirky family feel. Alongside the main house, it’s ideal for guests wanting dinner and breakfast or for families with young children who will find an expanse of lawn to play on. On the other side is the farm workshop where all the real farming stuff like beehive construction and tractor repairs or wood chopping happens during the week. There is a shaded sitting area facing the gum trees, overlooking the horse training ring.
The water in all our cottages comes straight off the mountain. It is a golden, clear amber colour and is completely safe and drinkable. The colour comes from the tannins that seep from roots as the water is naturally filtered underground before trickling into the rock pools high up on the mountainside. It has a high Ph level and a bit of a taste so we don’t think it makes a great Japanese sencha or even a heavenly cup of strong English tea so we suggest you bring bottled water if you are concerned, pregnant or have a sensitive and highly attuned sense of taste. But what we can promise is it is phenomenal to bath, shower or swim in.
