Course Outline

Two Day Short Beekeeping Courses at Honeywood Farm 2025

Beekeeping in South Africa, notes and books will be provided for reference purposes.

Food and accommodation are provided at Honeywood Farm. 

Course will be run in English – Afrikaans explanations and discussion welcome.

Two Day Program

  • Friday 
    • Register and book into cottages 
    • 07:00pm : Dinner in Main House
    • 08:00pm : Session 1 in Barnhuis
  • Saturday
    • 07.30am – 08:30am : Breakfast in Main House
    • 08.30am – 10.30am : Session 2 in Barnhiuis
    • 10.30am – 11.00am : Tea
    • 11.00am – 01.00pm : Session 3 field work 
    • 01.00pm – 02.00pm : Lunch
    • 02.00pm – 03.30pm : Session 4 Barnhuis and honey room
    • 03.30pm – 04.00pm : Tea
    • 04.00pm – 05.30pm : Session 5 Bee sites
    • 07:00pm – 08.00pm : Dinner in Main House
  • Sunday
    • 07.30am – 08:30am : Breakfast in Main House
    • 08.30am – 10.30am : Session 6 in Barnhuis and Fynbos
    • 10.30am – 11.00am : Tea
    • 11.00am – 01.00pm : Session 7 Barnhuis 
    • 01.00pm – 02.00pm : Lunch

Please make sure that you bring the following items with you 

  • Protective clothing – including Gumboots & thick socks as these are essential.
  • Plastic bee gloves with gauntlets
  • Bee Suit - Overall
  • Veil (hat required)
  • Book - Bee Keeping in South Africa (Optional but highly recommended)

Candidates must have the above protective clothing in order to participate in the practical sessions. 
The book “Beekeeping in South Africa” is recommended for those attending the course.
