Remote, restful and rustic - Sleeps 2

Remote and rustic, perched on a hillside on the far side of the farm, this little woodcutters’ cottage overlooks farmlands and is the perfect spot to escape from the city. You will need to conquer a dirt track to get here, finding yourselves close to forest walks and natural streams and swimming spots, or else you can sit under the pepper tree on the deck and watch the birds, or listen to the cattle lowing in the fields around you.

It’s simply furnished and not glamorous, but you can cool your beer and enjoy steaming hot showers! It’s always rewarding for us to see how guests arrive tired and tense only to leave looking rested and relaxed.

  • Small kitchen with the basics –pots, pans cutlery, plates mugs, glasses, gas fridge and a gas stove and oven.
  • Large living room.
  • One bedroom – double bed. Single beds are in the living room and double as fireside seating. So these are really for children.
  • Bathroom with shower bath and toilet.
  • Bedding and towels provided.
  • Wooden deck.
  • Indoor fire place. Outdoor braai area.
  • Firewood and mountain bike permits can be bought from the office on arrival or add it to your booking reservation.

The water in all our cottages comes straight off the mountain. It is a golden, clear amber colour and is completely safe and drinkable. The colour comes from the tannins that seep from roots as the water is naturally filtered underground before  trickling into the rock pools high up on the mountainside. It has a high Ph level and a bit of a taste so we don’t think it makes a great Japanese sencha or even a heavenly cup of strong English tea so we suggest you bring bottled water if you are concerned, pregnant or have a sensitive and highly attuned sense of taste. But what we can promise is it is phenomenal to bath, shower or swim in.

We ask all our guests to please shut the windows, shutters and doors when they leave the cottage. We have baboons who love bananas and will climb in through an open window for breadcrumbs if they get half the chance.
